Chris started his match against Steve Brown with a miserable 59 average in set one. He looked like a man trying to swim through candyfloss. Brown though, could not press home his advantage and finally, ‘Mace The Ace’ got his act together.

He began finding the treble 20 bed and raced away with nine consecutive legs to win the match. I don’t know how he will bring the talent in sync with the temperament. But it is fun watching and wondering…..and I’ll certainly be watching when Mace takes on Kevin Painter in the 2nd Round on Boxing Day.

MACHO MAN

Shock of the tournament so far….World No.4 Terry Jenkins taken to the cleaners by 21-year-old qualifier Kirk Shepherd, who danced around the stage like kangaroo on bed springs after his sensational win.

Jenkins bottled it – missing seven darts to win – and young Captain Kirk had put his darts in his pocket at one stage. Then, posing into the oche side camera like a veteran, he kicked the after-burner on the Starship Enterprise.

● Dave Lanning isn’t earning is money at the Ally Pally! He keeps popping back to the hotel for a kip - or to polish his ad-lib’s!

● Sid’s worst pun so far…. “As Schaden said to Freud in a bierkeller in Vienna – there’s a big difference between respect and fear.”
