Hammer Time

The last couple of years have been a darting dream for Henry the Eighth lookalike Andy Hamilton of Stoke, landlord of the Skylark pub and the man who grunts his feelings all the way through big darts matches. He has been dedicated and has done hours of gruelling practice with Phil Taylor. I was beginning to wonder if Andy had the killer instinct to win a big telly major and we are going to see in the Grand Slam final.
AndyÕs semi with Geordie Kevin McDine was a thriller and went to the very last possible leg. The end was almost farce as Kev made complete mess of a 67 finish for the match and let in the Stokie to nail a 50 finish for victory.
Despite heavy 140+ scoring Andy chased the brilliant new star most of the way.
Inspired by placards like ÔFog on the Tyne, McDine, McDineÕ the schoolboy-looking Kevin again looked to the oche born. Using lies round the 60 well, but missing the odd double, he got to 3-2. Andy was not doing well on the cover shots but thanks to shooting that include a 112 finish he at last got his nose in front 8-6.
At 10-9 Kev missed a 102 check out for 11-9 but did not get fazed: he got to 12-11 with a 118 finish. It looked curtains for Andy but a 14 darter set up the last leg drama.
I reckon Andy needs to play out of his socks and much improve his 94 average to be The Power.
