DENNIS is targeting a third World Championship title in a third venue at Alexandra Palace, following his victories at Lakeside in 1991 and the inaugural PDC event at the Circus Tavern in 1994.

A legend of the game with experience in seven other major PDC finals, Priestley has enjoyed a fine resurgence over the past three years.

He returned as high as third in the world and also won a Premier League Darts place, as well as kicking off 2007 with victory in the UK Open South-West Regional Final.

Dennis will enter hospital following this event for surgery on prostate cancer, meaning a likely six-week break from darts as he begins what everyone in the sport wishes will be a speedy and successful recovery.

His 6-1 win over Phil Taylor remains the heaviest ever inflicted upon the Stoke legend in a final, and began a classic rivalry between the two which remains to this day.

Taylor gained revenge with wins over Priestley in three of the next four World Championship finals, while Priestley was also the runner-up in the opening three World Matchplay events.

He is also a three-time semi-finalist in the World Grand Prix, and his form saw him return in 2006 to as high as third in the world as well as winning a place in the Premier League, where he reached the semi-finals, while a UK Open Regional Final win earlier this year has been the highlight of another strong year on the PDC circuit
